Intention

Design4Kids intention is to help educators, caregivers, and other child-serving professionals make physical settings to support the development of whole, healthy children, able to realize all their potential, regardless of any limiting conditions.

Motivating Vision

Physical settings for children that:

  • Demonstrate respect and a high regard for children.
  • Are pleasant, beautiful, and rich with nature.
  • Support active, engaged play and learning
  • Are joy-full and wonder-full
  • Have been developed, and are continuing to evolve/improve through active engagement and participation of teachers, caregivers, and other child serving professionals who are expert child-listeners.

Beliefs & Values

  • The physical settings we provide for young children profoundly influence their development, learning and behavior.
  • Young children deserve settings that have been thoughtfully planned considering child development, health and safety, and respecting the whole child.
  • The quality of early childhood programs is significantly improved by thoughtfully planning the physical setting to support the philosophy and goals of the program.
  • For the total well-being of children, it is important that they have regular opportunities to actively play outdoors in nature-rich settings.

Intentional Design

Intentional design means we work with you to thoughtfully plan all aspect of your nature-rich play and learning spaces. With children’s needs and characteristics as the starting point and mindful of your program values and goals, we take a holistic approach , from planning through construction.
