Purpose

Design4Kids serves to help educators, caregivers, and child-serving professionals make physical settings that support the development of all children, enabling them to realize all their potential regardless of limiting conditions.

Guiding Convictions

  • Physical settings profoundly influence the physical and emotional health of people in those settings, and especially the development, growth and well being of young children.
  • Our children deserve beautiful, nature-rich, thoughtfully planned, joy filled places in which to develop and learn.
  • People who inhabit built environments should have an active role in planning, making and continually improving those environments.
  • Our children represent the future and are one of our greatest responsibilities. 
  • To develop all their capabilities, children need opportunities for on-going experiences in natural settings.
  • The well being of children and Earth, our life support system, are profoundly interrelated.

Beliefs & Values

  • The physical settings we provide for young children profoundly influence their development, learning and behavior.
  • Young children deserve settings that have been thoughtfully planned considering child development, health and safety, and respecting the whole child.
  • The quality of early childhood programs is significantly improved by thoughtfully planning the physical setting to support the philosophy and goals of the program.
  • For the total well-being of children, it is important that they have regular opportunities to actively play outdoors in nature-rich settings.
  • Early childhood educators have tremendous value. They are helping to develop the potential, attitudes and characteristics of citizens and leaders of the future.

Intentional Design

Intentional design means we work with you to thoughtfully plan all aspect of your nature-rich play and learning spaces. With children’s needs and characteristics as the starting point and mindful of your program values and goals, we take a holistic approach , from planning through construction.

Gerry’s approach to designing your nature-rich play space considers all aspects and the concerns and ideas of participants in the planning process. From fostering children’s natural creativity and curiosity to ensuring safety and working within your budget, our holistic approach to the entire process-from conception to creation- guarantees a unique experience for your children.
